#gm0108 - Developed and published by Konami Corporation and released in December of 1988, Blades of Steel for NES is a port of the Arcade game. This old school title is still my favorite hockey game for NES. It supports two-player simultaneous or you can play against the computer. There are also two distinct modes of play, the single game and the season tournament games, each with three difficulty settings. Occasionally a fight will break out and you will have a close up view of the two players. Yes, you are allowed to beat up the other team's player. Fights happen when you repeatedly check or bump into another player. It is the closest thing to a one-on-one beat-'em-up. In this battle mode you have arrows and buttons to punch and dodge punches. The referee will eventually break up the fight and the loser of the fight will have to spend some time in the penalty box. Occasionally you are awarded a penalty shot, and the change of perspective was a very nicely done and added a nice touch. The graphics are pleasant and the sound enjoyable, but the best part is the gameplay. The action in the is crisp and fast paced, and the controls are tight. The hockey is fluid, the passing is easy, scoring is a little tricky, but it would be no fun if you scored every time down the ice. It's really a challenge and a lot of fun to play, especially when you are going up against your friends or relatives. This is the best Hockey game for NES and offers non-stop action in the rink. Blade of Steel is a sure-fire classic for any NES collector. If you want a piece of NES history, Blades of Steel is a good get. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included.
