#gcg0242 - Developed by Nintendo EAD and Published by Nintendo of America Inc., "Luigi's Mansion" was released for the Nintendo Gamecube Entertainment System (GCN) on November 18, 2001. The rare, complete original "black Label Version" is hard to find in this condition, and highly sought after. It features Mario's brother Luigi in his first game. This is a 3rd-Person Perspective, 3D action, horror-fest, featuring action, exploration, strategy and Puzzle-Solving.
The game scenario is that Luigi has received a letter claiming he's won a mansion in a contest that He never entered. But he agrees to meet his brother Mario at the mansion to get to the bottom of it. When he reaches the mansion, Mario is nowhere to be found, and the mansion is not only filled with cash, gems and riches, but it is also full of ghosts. And each of the primary ghosts (23 ) will pose a diverse threat and you will have to use wisdom and strategy to determine what it is. Luigi meets a scientist named Professor E. Gadd who says that he saw someone resembling mario briefly, but that he is now nowhere to be found. He gives Luigi the Poltergust 3000, which is a haunted vacuum cleaner that can shoot objects or spray ice, fire, ice and water by pressing the L button. With this trusted vacuum in hand, Luigi sets out in search of Marion, making his way through the various rooms of the mansion, while vacuuming up as many of the ghouls as possible. This is an entertaining game, where as you venture deeper into the mansion, the plot will slowly unravel where you will begin to realize that there is something strange and sinister going on, and it's not just a haunted house. There are nice surprises as you unlock new rooms with the various keys you will find along the way. The gameplay is really good and well paced. You will find yourself at times laughing, at times challenged and at times thoroughly satisfied with the entire experience. You must explore this vast mansion in order to solve its mysteries, collect money and gemstones, and put together the clues that will help you. These hidden treasure are really the name of the game, because you are also ranked by the amount of riches that you have amassed in the game. As far as the look, the Boss characters are rich and the environment lush. The rest of the visuals are really outstanding as well, as Luigi's Mansion is the perfect showcase for the GameCube's graphics design power. The sound fits the atmosphere perfectly, combined with a delightful suite of environmental sound effects and smartly implemented lighting, makes for a great experience. And your character being highly ranked at the end of the game is important, because in the second round where you are ranked will alter the hidden mansion and allow for a moderate amount of replay value. There is enough challenge in Luigi's Mansion to make it appealing to seasoned gamers, but it is also great fun to play asa well. More campy than scary, it belongs on everyone's top games list. If you like the Mario series of games, you'll love Luigi's Mansion.
