n64gm177 - Developed by Iguana Entertainment, Inc. and Published by Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., "All Star Baseball '99" was released for the Nintendo 64 (N64) Entertainment System in 1998. Before this game, baseball games were pretty simple with basic graphics and limited controls. But that all changed with the release of All Star Base ball '99, a 3rd-person perspective baseball simulation game featuring all 30 1999 Major League Baseball teams. Compared to the competition (M.L.B. Featuring Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Piazza's StrikeZone, etc.), this is the Alpha baseball game of its time. It's one of the best and classic baseball games of its era featuring over 700 Major League Baseball players that you can sign, trade or release. It's so realistic that you can even discover minor league (15 player farm clubs) prospects and call players up from the minors in case of injuries. You can even create your own MLB players and track stats in over 60 categories. The different game modes include Training, Season, Playoff, World Series, an All-Star Match, Home Run Derby, and Major League Baseball trivia. In addition to the usual season modes you can start a fantasy baseball mode in which you can create and draft your own team. The game control in Allstar Baseball 1999 is outstanding, very smooth gameplay with action control that is easy to learn. The high resolution graphics make it so incredibly beautiful, the best "ever" in this genre on the N64. It's simply a visual masterpiece. It features players characterized by skinned polygons that give them this natural look and realistic muscle tones. The realistic player movements seamlessly incorporate over 500 animations giving players a very natural look when they move or get broken bats. The design so god that you can clearly see the players' faces and the wrinkles in their team jersey. This game has 100 different styles for batting and nice movements in sliding catches, throws from your knees and base collisions. From the fields and backgrounds to the announcing (John Sterling and Michael Kaye provide the commentary), the whole game is beautifully designed with nice effects. The sound is not up to the standards of the game overall, but that's a small price to pay for this great game. Did I mention that this game is "FUN" and will keep me busy and interested for a long time. It also allows you to choose the difficulty level (Rookie, Veteran, or All-Star) so the whole family can enjoy. All-Star Baseball 99 is also known as ASB '99 in some circles, and is a Nintendo 64 classic baseball game. Well worth the price as this is a solid crack of the bat game. I give it a score of 8 3/4 out of 10. The minuses only because of sound track and crowd. Pre-owned - Includes Game Only, no manual or instructions are included.
