n64gm151 - Developed by HAL Laboratory, Inc. and Published by Nintendo Co., Ltd., "Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards" was released for the Nintendo 64 Entertainment System (N64) on March 24, 2000. This game is a fun, interesting, popular and rare 3rd-person perspective, polygonal side-scrolling platformer. In this first Kirby game for the Nintendo 64 platform, Kirby's mission is to save the citizens of Ripple Star from the ever growing force of Dark Matter. The game scenario is that Dark Matter has attacked the town in an effort to steal their special crystal. But the good fairy named Ribbon decides to take action and swoops in to nab the Crystal and take it to dream land. But 3 pieces of Dark matter have separated from it, followed the fairy and managed to shatter the crystal into 6 pieces, 5 of which fall all across the land as the fairy falls out of control. With one shard left, the fairy Ribbon falls on Pop Star (Kirby's Home) and lands right on top of him. When Ribbon explains the dilemma and asks for Kirby's help to find the 5 crystal shards, our hero quickly agrees. And if things weren't bad enough, Dark Matter has usurped control over Kirby's friends and he will have to fight them in order to bring them back to their selves. Ripple Star is saved and the game completed only when Kirby and players find all the hidden crystal shards hidden in the various levels. This wonderful game features a great story, kirby has 28 attacks that you can use, and there are the 25 different levels. As far as the graphics, they are mostly 2-D, gorgeous and colorful, But it does also feature some 3-D foreground and background elements. The music fits the game very well and is very entertaiuning without being repetitive. Some other nice features of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is Kirby's power to copy the abilities of his foes, which (in some instances) he can combine with other abilities to make unique combinations of them. The four multiplayer mini games are so much fun to play with friends, and can accommodate up to four players. Though I would recommend Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards for young gamers, I must also say that Kirby64 is original enough to entertain gamers of all ages. Great Family Fun!
