Kirby's Avalanche


SGM0021 - Developed by Compile, HAL Laboratory, Inc. and published by Nintendo of America Inc., "Kirby's Avalanche" was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) on February 1, 1995. Kirby's Avalanche for SNES is a beautiful little known but challenging blob puzzle game that is a really good game for everyone. Even those who may not like puzzle games. The story line is that the 1st Annual Dream Land's Avalanche Competition is about to get under way, and as Kirby and a host of characters from the Kirby series, you can join the tournament and become Avalanche king. The game is similar to Puyo Puyo, as you strategically stack color-coded blobs similarly to what is done in Tetris. Different colored blobs will fall in pairs. When the blobs fall and meld as a certain amount of one color is stacked, it create giant boulders. You have to have four (or more) of the same color attached by falling to the ground or each other. An explosion then occurs and the screen clears of those particular colored blobs and your boulders may rain down on your opponent. If the boulders or blobs fill to the top of the screen, then the game is over and you can retry the level. If your screen is cleared before your opponent or other player, you advance to the next level. You do this until you reach the end and the final boss, King Deedeeedee. The winner of that match is then crowned the Avalanche king. There are 16 grueling levels that you must go through in order to claim the Dream Fountain Cup. And you must play against a list of odd kirby characters. And they progressively get tougher to defeat. Kirby's Avalanche is a nice challenging game, has four difficulty settings, and supports one or two players. Well worth playing! In Europe, Kirby's Avalanche is called "Kirby's Ghost Trap."
