Tetris Attack

SGM0027 - Developed by Intelligent Systems Co., Ltd. and published by Nintendo of America Inc., "Tetris Attack" was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in September of 1996 and is an instant Classic. Tetris Attack is similar to Tetris, but only as a distant cousin. Even people who don't like puzzle games will be attracted to this one. Yes, you must clear the playing field of falling blocks and try not to let them reach the top, but that's where the similarity ends. Because in Tetris Attack, the designers merged a japanese game called "Panel de Pon," with the great Tetris formula and upgraded and embellished it. This is a unique and classic game that is simply outstanding in design, play and enjoyment. The way you play Tetris Attack is to swap the preset colored square blocks with icons into vertical or horizontal lines. Match three or more icons and they vanish. The game features many different game modes, including challenge mode, puzzle and time trials. But also a Versus mode, where as Yoshi, you must save the world from Bowser and dropping hunks of stone on characters by performing chains. Any way you look at it, Tetris attack is fun, and very addictive as you are constantly searching for the next chain opportunity or making a 4 block match. As far as gameplay and control, Tetris Attack is near perfect. The graphics are better than what you would expect for a nice block game, with everything sharp, bright and cute. The soundtrack is full of great and memorable melodies that you won't soon forget. But if you think Tetris Attack is simple, think again. It is actually quite challenging and one of the most complex puzzlers on any gaming system. This is due primarily to all the potential resulting combinations and chains. You can play alone or with a friend in the awesome multiplayer mode. In Japan Tetris Attack is called "Yoshi no Panepon".
