#gm0068 - Released in December of 1989 by Data East Corp., Robocop is mostly a side scrolling platform game that is based on the original movie of 1987, of the same name. And most of the films particulars (such as Clarence Boddicker and Dick Jones) can be found in this game. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, the scenario is that policeman Alex Murphy is killed on the streets of Detroit. OCP (Omni Consumer Products) is a corporation that uses this opportunity to bring him back to life as a part Human part Android police officer. Their motive is profit and a sinister underlying plan for Detroit. You play the game as Robocop, and your job is to clean up detroit. At your disposal are various weapons that he takes from the enemies he defeats. You can pick up power-ups in the form of baby food to increase health and batteries to increase time. There are a total of six stages in the game. After stages Robocop matches a criminal to a mug shot and gets a bonus round of marksmanship where he can receive an extra life. The downside to this game is that Robocop cannot jump. But he can move from side to side, duck, and shoot. He can also go with hand to hand combat. It also can only be played by one player at a time, and the game includes no save option. However, there are continues, so that is really not too much a problem.
